The All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed reports of a postponement of its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that its timetable remains unchanged.
In a statement issued Wednesday night in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the reports circulating on social media and other platforms as false and misleading.
“The All Progressives Congress wishes to clarify that the dates scheduled for the party’s forthcoming primary elections for the 2027 general elections remain unchanged,” Morka said.
The clarification comes as political activities intensify within the ruling party, with aspirants stepping up consultations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the primaries.
According to the party, the misinformation may have been spread by interests seeking to create confusion and tension before the exercise begins.
Morka said the statement was necessary to protect the integrity of the party’s internal electoral process and prevent members from being misled by unofficial reports.
“This clarification has become necessary following the circulation of false and misleading reports on social media and other communication platforms suggesting otherwise,” he added.
Under the existing timetable, the APC will begin its primaries with the House of Representatives polls in less than 48 hours, while the presidential primary is scheduled for May 23.
The party leadership reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and orderly primary process in line with its constitution and electoral guidelines.
