Super Eagles can still qualify for 2026 World Cup — Adode

The Super Eagles’ outstanding performance against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic has been described as the elixir the Coach Eric Chelle–tutored side needs to claim the remaining slot on the African continent for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, Chief Godwin Adode, said this after the Super Eagles’ 4–0 bashing of the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, in the final qualifying match in Group C.

Chief Adode said the team showed tenacity and resilience reminiscent of the Super Eagles of old, stressing that they can build on this success to pick the last World Cup ticket on the continent.

He noted that the team played as a unit and fought for each other while also creating chances converted by goal-scoring sensation Victor Osimhen and substitute Frank Onyeka.

The football coach turned administrator said the players must not relent but work assiduously to ensure that the country picks the only ticket left on the continent for the international playoff next year.

Chief Adode also called on the Nigerian football governing body, the NFF, to ensure that everything needed is put in place for a smooth campaign in the playoffs, saying all hands must be on deck to see Nigeria return to the global stage after missing the last edition in Qatar.

He said the Super Eagles can do it because they have the players to deliver the World Cup ticket to Nigerians.

Going forward, he enjoined the NFF not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the three-time African champions feature — and perform well — at the Mundial next year in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
