The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) is
partnering with the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) to strengthen standardization, safety, and quality assurance within Nigeria’srenewable energy sector.

This was disclosed when the Managing Director/CEO and Chief
Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir, along
with NEMSA’s management team, received the REAN delegation led by its President, Mr. Ayo Ademilola, in Abuja on Wednesday.

In his opening remark, Mr. Ademilola REAN is committed
to promoting strict adherence to standards and safe practices across the renewable energy industry.

He noted that the Association, which brings together over 300
stakeholders including developers, service providers, researchers,
and equipment manufacturers, is actively working to harmonize local and international standards for the Nigerian market.

A statement by Mrs. Ama Umoren, Head Communications
and Protocol, NEMSA, said that the visit provided an opportunity
for REAN to formally introduce its Standardization Working Group and to seek NEMSA’s support in setting up a liaison desk that will serve as a dedicated channel for coordination, inspections, certifications, and information sharing.

REAN also invited NEMSA to participate in its upcoming Energy
Access Roadshow — a state-to-state sensitization campaign aimed at educating practitioners and the public on safe renewable energy practices and compliance requirements.

In his response, the MD/CEO NEMSA, Engr. Tahir, reaffirmed
Agency’s statutory role in enforcing technical standards, testing and certifying electrical installations, and ensuring the safety of all electricity supply services nationwide.

He commended REAN’s proactive approach and disclosed that NEMSA is already collaborating with other regulatory bodies such as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Nigeria Customs Service to tackle the influx of substandard products and unqualified installers.

Both parties agreed to set up a joint technical working team to identify priority areas for awareness campaigns, align training programs, and develop effective strategies for nationwide education and enforcement. They also pledged to ensure that standards promoted within the sector are properly domesticated to guarantee compliance with Nigerian law.

The visit concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation to safeguard lives and investments, while ensuring that Nigeria’s renewable energy sector continues to grow in line with global best practices.
