Nigerian music star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has paid tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke. In a post shared on his official X handle, the 32-year-old singer wrote, “Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke Rip Legend!!”, sparking an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues alike.

The Afrobeats sensation’s brief post had garnered over 4.2 million views, 6,000 comments, 8,500 retweets, and 66,000 likes. The tributes on X stood at 10,300 tweets.

Ifeanyi died in October 2022, just a few days after celebrating his third birthday. The child reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at the family’s residence in Lagos while his parents were away on a trip to Ibadan.

His death sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with tributes pouring in for the child from celebrities, fans, and public figures. Following the tragedy, Davido and his wife, Chioma, took a long break from public life and social media.

The singer later opened up about the pain of losing his son, revealing that the experience reshaped his life and inspired him to channel his emotions into his music.

In March 2023, Davido made a comeback with his fourth studio album, Timeless, which he released after a period of mourning for Ifeanyi. The album was released following a break from social media to grieve and was announced with the message, “There’s a time for everything. A time to grieve and a time to heal, a time to laugh and a time to dance, a time to speak and a time for silence.”

The album signified his return and featured 17 tracks with collaborations with various artists. His recent post marks another public moment of remembrance as Davido continues to honour his son’s memory. Fans flooded his timeline with messages of support, love, and prayers for the family.
