In a bid to ease distribution of its products via Sabre’s expansive global marketplace, United Nigeria Airlines has signed a new distribution agreement with Sabre Corporation, a global distribution technology partner.
With the agreement, Sabre-connected travel agents worldwide will gain access to the Nigeria-based carrier’s fares and inventory, supporting United Nigeria Airlines’ ambitions for growth across Nigeria and West Africa.
Through this integration, over 50,000 travel agents across 200 countries will be able to access the carrier’s platform.
Speaking on Monday, the Chairman and Accountable Manager of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, said the choice of Sabre marks a significant milestone in the airline’s journey.
He said that, for the first time, the airline will make its products available through a global travel marketplace, giving it the opportunity to broaden its reach and connect with travellers around the world.
Prof Okonkwo asserted that the agreement supports its growth strategy by enhancing visibility and enabling travel agents globally to seamlessly shop and book fares, as the carrier looks forward to welcoming more travellers.
He further explained that migration to the Sabre network would ensure the airline matches its capacity and aircraft type with demand, adding that it would also improve interlining planning across its network.
According to Okonkwo, with this partnership, UNA has become the third Nigerian carrier on the Global Distribution System.
He explained that the integration with Sabre was part of the airline’s promise at the beginning of the year to enhance its information technology and innovative capabilities.
Commending the teams at Sabre and the airline for the migration, he maintained that it would further accelerate its Lagos-Accra route, which is slated to commence on August 25, 2025.
“This is in keeping with our promise to go global as quickly as we can. These are objectives we have lined up that were delayed by turbulence in the country, especially in the aviation sector over the last two to three years. We can be delayed, but we cannot be stopped.” he said.
