In a stark contrast to the grim developments, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu offered a glimmer of progress and unity on Monday as he inaugurated the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, a major infrastructure project aimed at addressing water scarcity in the capital.
Addressing the crowd at the commissioning ceremony, Tinubu framed the project as both a technical achievement and a moral imperative.
“This project is not just about laying pipes. We are laying the groundwork for healthier families, stronger communities and a more productive city.”
“It is a renewal. When we speak of renewal, this is what we mean—a tangible, people-focused project that improves the daily lives of ordinary people here. Water to drink, to clean, to grow, to build. That is a real project. It is a treasure that we always take for granted.”
The project, which covers Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6, will ensure clean, sustainable water delivery to various districts in Abuja and extend to satellite towns.
Tinubu applauded FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, praising his leadership for being deeply rooted in the needs of the people.
“This virtue is when a leader is very conscious of the needs of his people and he goes about, committed with dedication to do it. That’s what you have been exhibiting in FCT.”
Minister Wike, visibly buoyed by the President’s presence, reassured Nigerians that more milestones were on the horizon.
“We believe in your third-year anniversary, we will also commission those satellite towns where you are providing water,” Wike said. “Every day, we’ll make sure that people will see what you are doing. Those who want to see, will see. Those who don’t want to see—it’s not your fault. Because they decided not to see.”
