Troops from the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), announced they had neutralized a bandit and seized various weapons and ammunition during a recent mission in Taraba State.

According to a statement released in Jalingo on Tuesday by the Brigade’s spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the troops have stepped up operations in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area following recent violent incidents that resulted in significant loss of life and property.

The statement detailed that on May 26, 2025, while conducting a patrol in Kwanchi village, the troops encountered armed bandits and engaged them in a chase. During the pursuit, a motorcycle used by the troops broke down and was temporarily left behind in the village so the mission could continue.

Upon returning, the soldiers discovered the motorcycle was missing, prompting an immediate search operation.

During the raid, the soldiers encountered three police officers and a civilian, identified as Alhaji Munga. Further questioning led to a call to Alhaji Lamido, who was alleged to be in possession of the missing motorcycle. Lamido claimed he was in Mutum Biyu and that the motorcycle had been moved to Kudeh village near a riverbank.

As the troops moved to recover the item, they came under sudden attack by armed bandits. The soldiers returned fire and engaged in a firefight, eventually forcing the attackers to flee and abandon their position.

Recovered from the operation were a dane gun, a locally made pistol, and four motorcycles.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their quick response, professionalism, and dedication.

“This mission reflects our commitment to rooting out criminal elements wherever they may be. Protecting lives and property in Taraba State is our priority,” he said.

General Uwa encouraged residents to assist security forces by sharing credible intelligence, stressing that collective efforts are essential to defeating threats to peace in the region.

He reaffirmed the Army’s dedication to eliminating criminal activities and restoring peace in Taraba as part of ongoing efforts under OPERATION LAFIYAN JAMAA.
