The Presidency has explained the reason behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) choosing President Bola Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

According to Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, the party’s leadership conducted a midterm review of the president’s performance and concluded that his accomplishments warranted a second term.

On Thursday, both the APC National Assembly Caucus and the party’s Governors’ Forum officially endorsed Tinubu for re-election, citing his achievements in office.

Speaking at the APC National Summit in Abuja, Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirmed that Tinubu had been adopted as the party’s sole presidential candidate.

Later that day, Bwala remarked that the move showcased the APC’s commitment to accountability and structured governance. He emphasized that unlike in the past, the party undertook a self-evaluation, using performance indicators to assess Tinubu’s leadership at the halfway mark of his term.

He noted that such internal performance reviews reflect the president’s focus on development and reform. Bwala said the process began earlier, with a call for party members to measure the administration’s promises against actual results.

He described the decision as a normal and healthy part of party politics, rooted in unity and strategic direction. He also praised Tinubu’s impact, highlighting improvements in state finances, project implementation, and debt repayment attributed to increased revenue under Tinubu’s administration.

Bwala clarified that the endorsement was an internal party matter and not meant to signal that all national problems had been solved. Rather, it was a form of internal assessment before Nigerians seen as the “external examiners” make their own judgment in 2027.

In conclusion, Bwala affirmed that based on the progress made in sectors like infrastructure, education (NELFUND), and security, the party believes Tinubu deserves another term in office.
