Hon. Larai Sylvia Ishaku, Chairperson of Jaba Local Government Area, has visited Ramindop community on Wednesday to assess the aftermath of a powerful rainstorm that recently ravaged the area.
The storm, which struck, left a trail of destruction—damaging numerous homes and displacing several families. Upon her arrival, Hon. Ishaku was warmly received by local leaders and residents who voiced their distress over the incident, as well as appreciation for her swift intervention.
Touring the affected areas, Hon. Ishaku interacted with victims, offered words of comfort, and assured the community of the local government’s commitment to providing support. “Government may not be able to meet every need, but we will do all we can to help those impacted,” she said, pledging that her office would immediately contact the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to request urgent relief materials and support.
Beyond addressing immediate needs, the Chairperson used the opportunity to speak on the broader issue of climate change. She encouraged residents to adopt sustainable practices such as tree planting to reduce environmental risks. “Kaduna State is taking climate change seriously. We all must play our part by engaging in afforestation to safeguard our environment,” she noted.
While expressing gratitude that no lives were lost, Hon. Ishaku prayed for a safe and productive rainy season across the local government area. Her visit was met with widespread appreciation from residents, who described it as timely and uplifting.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Village Head of Ramindop thanked Hon. Ishaku for her compassion and quick response. He detailed the extent of the damage, noting that while some houses had lost their roofs, others were completely destroyed. He presented a compiled list of the affected households to aid in relief planning.
“Your presence here means a lot to us. It is a clear sign of leadership that listens and acts,” the Village Head said.
Her visit not only brought comfort to the victims but also reinforced her reputation as a responsive and people-centered leader, committed to standing by her constituents in times of hardship and recovery.
