The MPs also agreed to President Tinubu’s announcement that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected assembly members would be suspended for six months.

President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers was discussed by the House of Representatives on Thursday.

In order to guarantee that the two-thirds required to constitute a quorum were present in the House, a representative member sought a head count of the members present at the start of Thursday’s debate.

But instead of doing a head count, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas decided to use the attendance register.

“I would like the house to be aware that, according to our attendance register, 243 members are present at today’s plenary. For the record, the Speaker stated, “We have more than met the requirements for this specific amendment.”
