Budget presentation: Fubara denied access to Rivers Assembly complex

    Published on

The Rivers State House of Assembly quarters, where plenary sessions are now held, were closed to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday.

According to information obtained, the governor was unable to enter the Assembly quarters after arriving on Wednesday morning to deliver the state 2025 budget due to a barred gate.

Fubara had already promised to carry out the Supreme Court’s ruling, which included formally presenting the budget for 2024.

In December 2023, a four-member Assembly faction was first shown the budget.

The Assembly gave the governor a 48-hour deadline to submit the 2025 budget last Thursday.

Fubara replied that before moving forward, he needed to obtain the Certified True Copy, or CTC, of the court ruling.

Fubara requested lawmakers to review the Supreme Court’s decision in a letter sent to Speaker Martins Amaewhule on Sunday and signed by Secretary to the State Government Tammy Danagogo.

In order to map out the state’s future, the talks were supposed to address a number of topics, including the budget presentation and the legislators’ unpaid salaries.
