Jude Okoye Chigozie, the former manager of the now-defunct music group P-Square, has been granted N100 million in bail by Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Jude Okoye and his business, Northside Music Limited, are on trial for seven money laundering-related allegations.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Lagos Zonal Directorate filed the charges against him.
When the accusations were read to him at his arraignment on February 26, 2025, he entered a plea of “not guilty.”
His defense attorney, Inibehe Effiong, urged the court to allow his client’s bail application during Monday’s sessions, citing medical reasons.
Fanen Anum, the prosecuting attorney, argued against the application, requesting that the court reject it and instead hold an expedited hearing.
Anum contended, “He poses a flight risk and could disrupt the prosecution’s witnesses.”
Justice Owoeye granted Okoye bail in the amount of N100 million, with two sureties in an equivalent amount, after taking into account all of the submissions and stating that the accusations against him were subject to bail. Within the court’s jurisdiction, one of the sureties must be the owner of landed property.
Additionally, the court mandated that Okoye notify the EFCC prior to departing the jurisdiction.
The matter was postponed until April 14, 2025.
