US Defense Secretary: Our soldiers will not be employed for peace in Ukraine, Putin vs. Zelensky dispute

    Published on

Following any ceasefire agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US forces will not be utilized to mediate peace in Ukraine, according to US Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth.

The statement by Hegseth marks a significant departure from European foreign and defense policy.

He made this revelation at the NATO allies’ inaugural meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday.

Mr. Hegseth cautioned that America’s patience was running out, even though he continued to support NATO.

“Our transatlantic alliance has endured for decades,” Hegseth said. And we have every expectation that it will continue for many more generations. This won’t just happen, though.

“Our European allies must enter the fray and assume responsibility for conventional security on this continent.”

“The United States is still dedicated to the defense partnership with Europe and to the NATO alliance.

“Encouraging Europe to take ownership of its security will be the top priority in our relationship.”
