    Published on

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will begin a two-day state visit to Nigeria on Tuesday.

This information was revealed in a statement released by the German Embassy on Monday.

According to the announcement, President Steinmeier will meet with Alieu Omar Touray, the president of the Commission of Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president of Nigeria.

The announcement states that Steinmeier will next travel to Lagos, where he will meet with civil society and cultural leaders in Nigeria, including Dr. Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka, as well as business representatives and a start-up cluster.

He will take a tour of Lagos and learn about the social and environmental issues that arise in a megacity’s urban development.

“A business delegation of CEOs and senior board members from some of Germany’s most prosperous companies in the IT, hightech, and energy sectors will accompany President Steinmeier, demonstrating the growing interest of German companies in investment opportunities in Nigeria.”

Nigeria is a significant political, economic, and cultural partner of Germany in Africa, and this visit sends a clear message, the statement read.
