The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has spoken out regarding the allegations of preferential treatment surrounding popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, during his jail time. Bobrisky, who was briefly incarcerated over naira abuse charges, claimed in a viral audio clip that he had bribed officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to secure special privileges.

The incident, which raised concerns about corruption within the correctional system, has sparked widespread public debate. In response, Tunji-Ojo called the allegations a reflection of deeper institutional issues, emphasizing the need for reforms and accountability within the system.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the minister assured the public that disciplinary action is being taken. He confirmed that a senior NCoS official, who was found to have given verbal instructions that facilitated Bobrisky’s special treatment, had been suspended. Tunji-Ojo stated that the ministry is committed to addressing the matter thoroughly, stating, “We are not going to shield anybody.”

The minister revealed that a report on the incident has been submitted to the appropriate board, with a copy sent to the NCoS for further disciplinary actions to be initiated. He reiterated that institutional reform is necessary to prevent similar issues from recurring, adding, “We cannot transfer today’s problem to the future.”
