The Abia State Government has officially commenced the disbursement of interest-free loans to 302 youth farmers trained in various agricultural ventures. This initiative aims to boost food production in the state.

Mr. Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, announced the loan disbursement during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Umuahia.

In February, the government sponsored these youths to receive training at CSS Global Integrated Farms in Nassarawa State. Kanu emphasized that the program aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity in Abia.

He stated, “The process for the disbursement of interest-free loans to the 302 youth farmers trained at CSS Farms has commenced. This follows the flag-off and approval by His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, in September.”

To ensure effective utilization of the funds, the Ministry of Agriculture will oversee the disbursement process. Kanu explained, “Beneficiaries will not receive a lump sum payment; instead, the loans will be disbursed in tranches based on milestones related to their progress.”

This structured approach aims to ensure that the loans are used effectively, ultimately supporting the state’s agricultural goals.
