Football In Nigeria At Risk: Civil Society Network Defends NFF General Secretary

    Published on

The Civil Society Network for Good Governance (CSNGG) has strongly condemned the ongoing attempts to remove Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), describing it as a deliberate and malicious plot to undermine the leadership of Nigerian football.

Barr. Kamal Adefila, CSNGG National President, stated: “This plot is detrimental to Nigerian football’s progress. We urge stakeholders to support the team, especially with crucial AFCON and World Cup qualifiers approaching. The NFF, under President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, has made significant strides in modernizing administrative processes, promoting transparency, developing grassroots football, and elevating Nigeria’s international presence.”

Adefila emphasized that the CSNGG will not stand by while faceless individuals attempt to hijack the administration of Nigerian football. “We are aware of the vested interests driving this plot and will expose them if necessary,” he warned.h

The CSNGG highlighted several achievements under the current NFF leadership, including:

    • Streamlined administrative processes for efficiency
    • Enhanced transparency in decision-making
    • Increased investment in youth development programs
    • Improved Nigeria’s reputation in global football

Adefila expressed confidence in Dr. Sanusi’s dedication to improving Nigerian football, calling on Nigerians to disregard falsehoods against him. “Dr. Sanusi has dedicated years to Nigerian football, and his commitment to its growth is unwavering,” he said.

The CSNGG reminded stakeholders that NFF congresses are platforms for synthesizing ideas and plans for Nigerian football’s development, not arenas for political manipulation or personal gain.

As Nigeria prepares for upcoming football engagements, the CSNGG urged stakeholders to rally behind the NFF leadership. “We must remain focused on bringing back the glory of Nigerian football, which cannot be achieved through division and infighting,” Adefila concluded.

The CSNGG called on all genuine stakeholders to work together to preserve stability in Nigerian football, prioritizing unity and collaboration over personal interests.
