The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), aimed at strengthening the fight against corruption within the Commission. The ceremony took place today, with representatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in attendance.

DIG Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the PSC, emphasized the importance of integrity during the inauguration. He urged members of the new unit to prioritize justice and to avoid tribal and religious biases in their work, stating, “It is Nigeria first.” He encouraged whistleblowing against any corrupt practices, including those involving his own conduct.

The ICPC, represented by Olusegun Adigun, highlighted that the ACTU is part of a federal initiative to enhance accountability within government agencies. He noted that the unit is designed to function alongside management, supporting the PSC’s vision of a disciplined and accountable police service.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu, a Commissioner in the PSC, expressed full support for the new unit, promising collaboration to eliminate corruption.

In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Chairman of ACTU, Nasidi Yusuf, committed to fostering a culture of zero tolerance for corruption, enhancing awareness on best practices, and developing effective anti-corruption strategies. He called on his colleagues to actively participate in identifying and mitigating corruption risks within the Commission.

The establishment of ACTU is seen as a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s police service.
