Police operatives in Osun State have arrested three Yoruba Nation agitators for displaying flags and urging support for their cause in a local market. The suspects, Fagbuyi Oluwafemi (61), Joy Faseyeku (63), and Alabede Janet (64), were apprehended on August 27 at Obada Market in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.

According to a statement by Osun Police Acting spokesman, Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, Oluwafemi, a native of Akure, Ondo State, was addressing traders in the market, encouraging them to embrace the Yoruba Nation movement and denounce their allegiance to Nigeria. He claimed Nigeria ceased to exist as a unified nation in 2014, following the centenary of the 1914 amalgamation.

Oluwafemi was arrested while displaying the Yoruba Nation flag. Following his apprehension, further investigation led to the arrests of Faseyeku and Janet in Osogbo and Ikire, respectively. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as tensions rise surrounding the activities of Yoruba Nation agitators in the region.
