Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and renowned human rights lawyer, has strongly condemned the recent raid on the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). The advocacy organization alerted the public via its official X handle on Monday, reporting that DSS agents had taken over its office premises.

In a statement released on Monday, Falana criticized the invasion as unlawful and an abuse of authority. He called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure that the DSS ceases its harassment and intimidation of Nigerian citizens.

“The invasion of SERAP’s office is an unlawful act and a blatant abuse of power,” Falana stated. “The Tinubu government must urgently identify and prosecute the officers responsible for this invasion.”

Falana emphasized the need for the government to respect the rights of human rights defenders and allow them to operate freely in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution. The Senior Advocate urged for a prompt investigation and legal action against those involved in the raid.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for accountability and protection of fundamental rights amidst growing concerns about government overreach and suppression of dissent.
