The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has assured that the local government elections set for September 21, 2024, will proceed as scheduled, dismissing any concerns about delays.

Prof. Christian Ngwu, Chairman of ENSIEC, confirmed that the commission is adhering to its timetable and has secured the necessary financial backing from the state government to ensure a successful election.

“We are on track with our plans, and all logistical arrangements have been completed with a strong focus on security,” Prof. Ngwu stated. He highlighted that ENSIEC is coordinating closely with security agencies and other support organizations to ensure comprehensive coverage before, during, and after the elections.

To further prepare, ENSIEC has organized a three-day training workshop for 50 central electoral officials to enhance the efficiency of the electoral process.

With over 10 political parties participating, the elections will involve 17 chairmanship positions and 260 ward councillor seats across the state. Prof. Ngwu reassured the public that every measure is being taken to ensure the safety of electoral materials, officials, and voters on election day.
