A faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, known as the People’s Assembly (OPA), has demanded disciplinary action against two governorship aspirants, Jimoh Ibrahim and Chief Olusola Oke, for allegedly undermining the party’s democratic process and disrespecting the office of the governor.
During a press conference in Akure, the state capital, the convener of the group, Comrade Olufemi Lawson, and its publicity secretary, Isijola Kikelomo, accused the aspirants of attempting to disrupt the peace and stability of the state following the APC’s gubernatorial primary.
“The Ondo Peoples Assembly (OPA) vehemently condemns the continued attempts to undermine the democratic process and instigate crisis following the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary,” Lawson and Isijola stated.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the alleged attacks on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim and some supporters of Chief Olusola Oke, describing such actions as unacceptable and detrimental to the party and the state.
The group commended other aspirants for their sportsmanship and urged the APC leadership to take decisive action against Senator Jimoh Ibrahim for his continuous attacks on the party and the governor’s office. They emphasized their support for Governor Aiyedatiwa as the APC’s candidate for the forthcoming governorship election.
In response, Chief Olusola Oke’s spokesperson, Ojo Oyewamide, criticized the group’s claims, stating that seeking justice in court is not an affront to the people of Ondo state. He emphasized their displeasure with the manner in which Aiyedatiwa was selected as the party’s candidate.
