Chelsea has reportedly reached out to Serie A club Napoli regarding the potential transfer of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen. The 25-year-old Nigerian gained attention from various clubs after an impressive performance that contributed to Napoli’s Serie A title win last summer.
Osimhen scored an outstanding 31 goals and provided five assists in 39 games across all competitions, with 26 goals coming in the league. Chelsea, currently facing inconsistencies and sitting in ninth place in the Premier League, is eager to strengthen its attacking options after failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for two consecutive seasons.
According to reports, discussions have been initiated by Chelsea for the acquisition of Victor Osimhen. The club is looking to bolster its attacking lineup, having scored only 35 goals so far this season. Chelsea faces competition from other clubs, with Paris Saint-Germain being mentioned as one of the contenders for Osimhen’s signature.
While Chelsea appears to have raced ahead of Arsenal in the pursuit of Osimhen, the Nigerian striker is currently representing Nigeria in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
Victor Osimhen Hints at Napoli Exit
Meanwhile, the winner of the 2023 CAF African Footballer of the Year award, Victor Osimhen, has hinted at a potential exit from Napoli. In an interview with CBS, Osimhen stated, “I have already made my decision on the next step to do at the end of the season. I already made up my mind. I already have my plan, I know what I want to do, the next step I want to take.”
Although Osimhen did not explicitly state that he would be leaving Napoli at the end of the season, there have been rumors suggesting his departure from the club. Osimhen has faced racial abuse from fans despite playing a pivotal role in Napoli’s title triumph in 2023.
