Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has criticized the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for their handling of the 2023 presidential elections, leading to their defeat. Speaking to reporters in Lagos, George blamed the NWC for deviating from the established procedures set by the PDP’s founding fathers for conducting primary elections and congresses. He emphasized the need to return to these established processes to enhance the party’s prospects in future elections.

George, who had worked at the national secretariat for a decade, pointed out the recurring problem during every electoral period. He indicated that the crisis began during Uche Secondus’ tenure, expressing concern over the alterations made to the handling of primaries and congresses. George stated that the party’s ownership should not be attributed to any individual, but some individuals pretend to work for the party’s interests, causing internal conflicts.

He cited an example of the flawed process, specifically in Lagos, where outsiders were sent to conduct primaries, leading to division and confusion. George described how these individuals targeted aspirants, turning them into their “Automated Teller Machine, ATM.” He urged the party to address these issues internally, emphasizing the importance of reconciling differences and conducting a comprehensive review of the party’s experiences in each state during the 2023 elections.

George called for the establishment of a reconciliation committee that would investigate the election processes in each state, inquire about financial matters, and assess the political aspects. He emphasized the necessity of thorough inquiries and emphasized that sweeping problems under the carpet would not lead to a solution.
