The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commenced the establishment of a Digital Economy Centre (DEC) in Kafanchan, Kaduna state, as part of its commitment to youth empowerment.

This initiative was approved by NITDA in August following a request from Senator Sunday Katung, who represents Kaduna South senatorial district. Senator Katung’s request, dated July 18, 2023, sought the establishment of DECs in five secondary schools within his constituency, including women and youth training centers.

The DEC in Kafanchan aligns with NITDA’s mission to promote Nigeria’s digital economy drive, complementing similar centers established in various regions of the country, with plans for more in the future.

According to an official statement released on Sunday, the equipment required for the installation was delivered on Saturday by Simon Yusuf, the principal of Government Secondary School (GSS) Kafanchan, where the project is located. Yusuf, who also serves as an NITDA official, confirmed that the equipment installation would be completed within one week.

The equipment and accessories delivered to the school include branded desktop computers, VSAT equipment, battery rack, and various accessories. Additionally, the installation includes 30 HDMIVGA converters, 300-WATT MOD-crystal line solar panels, and a 1KVA generator, among other items.

Senator Katung expressed his appreciation for NITDA’s swift approval and action on his request. He believes that the establishment of this center will be a significant opportunity for unemployed youths in the area, potentially serving as a catalyst for positive change.
