    UNISFA Force Commander, General Sawyerr Decorates Hammanga, 2 Others With New Ranks

    United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr, has decorated Abubakar Hammanga and two other Officers with their next rank as Captain.

    He was assisted by the Force Headquarters FHQ, Chief Medical Adviser to Force Commander, FC.

    Captain Hammanga was decorated alongside two other officers, Captain Joshua Babalola Baiyekusi And Captain Abdulmumin Mustapha on Thursday, 7 September 2023 at the UNISFA headquarters at Diffra, Abyei town.

    The decorated officers and Captain Abubakar Umar Hammanga from the Directorate Army Public Relations who are on a multinational peacekeeping mission are currently serving with the Nigerian Base Defence company in the United Mission interim security force in Abyei (UNISFA) South Sudan.

    Captain Abubakar Hammanga will continue serves as the Force Headquarters public Relations Officer, of United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) throughout his mission in the South Sudan.

    The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) was established through United Nations Security Council Resolution 1990 of June 27, 2011. Resolution 1990 made provision for the deployment of 4,200 Ethiopian troops to provide security and protect civilians under imminent threat of violence in the disputed border region.
