The presidency has revealed that President Bola Tinubu will use his presence at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, as an opportunity to attract foreign direct investments (FDI) for Nigeria. Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, conveyed this during an announcement at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Here are the key highlights of President Tinubu’s agenda for the G20 Summit:
- Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): President Tinubu’s primary objective is to leverage the summit to seek FDI for Nigeria. The overarching aim is to draw in private capital and international investments to foster the development of Nigeria’s public infrastructure.
- Engagement with Global Leaders: The president has an extensive schedule of meetings with global leaders and business figures aimed at advancing Nigeria’s developmental goals. These discussions will span across various sectors, encompassing steel development, electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and shipyard construction capacity, among others.
- Job Creation: President Tinubu is committed to promoting industries with a substantial labor force, with the intention of generating more employment opportunities for Nigeria’s youthful population.
- CEO Roundtable: An essential component of the president’s agenda is the hosting of a CEO roundtable, featuring over 20 chief executive officers representing diverse sectors of the Indian economy. This roundtable seeks to harness their interest in investing in Nigeria to bolster the country’s industrialization initiatives.
- Bilateral Diplomacy: President Tinubu is slated to engage in bilateral meetings with fellow heads of state, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Brazilian President da Silva, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, and several others.
These strategic engagements form a crucial part of President Tinubu’s strategy to fortify Nigeria’s economic relationships with other nations and to attract investments that can contribute significantly to the nation’s development and the creation of employment opportunities. The G20 Summit, scheduled for September 9th and 10th, 2023, serves as an important platform for these discussions and initiatives.
