The Lagos State Police Command has reported the arrest of 88 suspected criminals within 24 hours of launching “Operation Flush.” The operation aims to identify and target trouble spots, especially in construction areas, and flush out criminals, particularly traffic robbers and miscreants.
Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, made this disclosure during a press briefing in Ikeja, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday. The raids conducted during Operation Flush led to the recovery of hard drugs and firearms, and the suspects will be paraded before the media later in the week.
One of the areas of security concern raised by the CP was the Orile/Iganmu region, with particular emphasis on the tension linked to the bridge in that area. In response to this, the police are planning to have permanent police deployment along that stretch to enhance security.
Furthermore, the commissioner addressed gender-based violence and emphasized that the unit’s capacity has been strengthened since he took office. He acknowledged that gender-based violence, sexual abuse, and family-related violence are among the highest reported crimes in Lagos State. However, these crimes often go unreported due to socio-cultural factors. He called on journalists to collaborate in the fight against crime and create awareness to address these serious issues.
