The management of Shooting Stars SC, Ibadan, has announced the death of the club’s newly appointed assistant coach, Akin Olowokere, who passed away on Monday.

The Ekiti-born tactician reportedly collapsed during a training session in Ikenne, Ogun State, and died shortly afterward.

In a statement on Monday, the club described his passing as “a rude shock and a great loss,” particularly as the team was preparing for the new season.

“With deep shock and sadness, Shooting Stars SC announces the passing of our beloved Coach Akin Olowokere, who tragically slumped and passed away on the pitch this morning, 11th August 2025.

Olowokere was not only a dedicated and passionate football tactician but also a mentor, friend, and father figure to the players and many others. He exhibited compassion during his short stint with the club and the wider football community,” the statement read.

The club praised his unwavering commitment to the team’s growth and success and expressed hope that his legacy would inspire future generations.

Shooting Stars extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, players, and the entire football community during this difficult time.
