A total of 1,953 members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps have successfully completed the three-week orientation exercise in Bayelsa State and are set to begin their mandatory one-year national service.
The closing ceremony was held on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kaiama, located in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
Addressing the corps members, Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, urged them to make their service year impactful and memorable by contributing positively to the development of the state and the country at large.
The governor, who was represented by his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Mr. Wisdom Poyeri, advised the corps members to take their various Places of Primary Assignment seriously and use their knowledge and skills to benefit their host communities.
He also encouraged them to embrace tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence throughout their service year.
According to him, the Bayelsa State Government remains committed to supporting the corps members during their stay in the state and ensuring their welfare and safety.
Diri urged the corps members to make good use of the lessons learnt during the orientation exercise, noting that the training would be beneficial to them in the future.
“I urge you to impact meaningfully with what you have been taught in camp, as it can serve as a light to others in society.
“Please do not disappoint yourselves, your schools and your parents who have supported you to become better persons in society.
“Bayelsa and Nigeria are counting on you to exhibit good conduct and contribute positively to future generations,” he said.
The governor further assured the corps members that the state government would continue to provide a conducive environment for them throughout their service year in Bayelsa.
The orientation course, which lasted 21 days, featured drills, leadership training, lectures, skill acquisition programmes and other activities designed to prepare the corps members for national service.
