Zulum urges prayers for peace amid renewed attacks

    Published on

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has called on Muslims to intensify prayers during the last ten days of Ramadan for an end to the insecurity affecting the state.

Zulum made the call while performing the Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, where he said he joined other Muslims in special prayer sessions for lasting peace in Borno and Nigeria.

The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya.

According to the governor, the recent coordinated attacks by Boko Haram insurgents should not weaken the resolve of residents to remain united against the threat.

“As we usher in the last 10 days of the Holy month of Ramadan, let us intensify prayers to Almighty Allah and seek His mercy, blessings and rewards,” Zulum said.

He also urged the Christian community observing Lent to join in prayers for peace and stability in the state.

While condoling the families of victims of the recent attacks, the governor assured that the state government would continue to support the military and other security agencies in efforts to end insurgency and terrorism.

Zulum added that the renewed attacks should serve as a unifying factor for residents in confronting the security challenges facing the state.
