You’ve to respect Chelsea – Obi Mikel slams Enzo Fernandez

    Published on

Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has hit out at Enzo Fernandez over his leadership qualities and recent comments at the Blues following their UEFA Champions League exit.

Recall that Fernandez had criticized Chelsea following their Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last month.

The Argentina World Cup winner said that PSG were tactically better than Liam Rosenior’s men.

Also, Fernandez recently made headlines by telling ESPN Argentina that he was not sure if his future beyond the end of this season would be at Chelsea.

The former Benfica midfielder then said in another interview, with LuzuTV, that if he could live in any city in Europe, he would choose Madrid.

However, Obi Mikel believes that Fernandez is not a true leader, adding that he has to respect Chelsea and the fans because they pay his wages.

Speaking on his Obi One Podcast about Fernandez’s recent comments, the former Super Eagles captain said, “That is not a leader.

“That is something where if you have leaders, if you have leaders that players respect and look up to, you wouldn’t come out and make those statements.

“You don’t make that statement after we’ve been disgracefully dumped out of the Champions League, wearing the captain’s armband.

“No player is bigger than the football club. If he’s had enough, put your hands up and f*** off. And we move on.

“I can understand a little bit of frustration, but you still have to respect the badge, you still have to respect the football club, you still have to respect the fans, because the fans are the ones who pay your wages.”
