‎The Jos Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 23-year-old labourer, Shuiabu Abubakar, to 30 months’ imprisonment for stealing wrappers and clothing from a shop.

‎Abubakar pleaded guilty to trespass, mischief and theft.

‎The magistrate, Hannatu Ashom, however, gave Mr Abubakar an option of a N180,000 fine.

‎While reviewing the facts, the prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by the complainant, Shakira Abdullazeez.

‎Gokwat said the convict broke into the complainant’s shop and stole Ankara wrappers and clothing materials worth N158,000.

‎During the police investigation, the prosecution said, some of the stolen materials were recovered from the convict.

‎He said the offence contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
