Spotify has honored Yemi Alade as its EQUAL Africa artist for September. This accolade is part of Spotify’s EQUAL Africa program, which aims to empower female artists across the continent and spotlight those who push artistic boundaries.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, commended Alade’s exceptional talent and dedication. “Yemi Alade exemplifies the kind of talent our program strives to celebrate. We are thrilled to support Yemi through the EQUAL Africa initiative, amplifying her voice and showcasing her remarkable talents to a global audience,” Okumu stated.

With a career that spans over a decade, Yemi Alade has become one of Nigeria’s most influential female artists. Known for her powerful voice and dynamic performances, she has built a substantial fan base both locally and internationally.

Alade’s music blends African sounds, including high-life pop, R’n’B, and afrobeat, with elements of jazz and blues. She described her style as a “beautiful blend inspired by jazz and blues,” emphasizing her desire to avoid being confined to a single genre. “My music is a fusion of African rhythms, with the core rooted in African sounds,” she said.

Her global tours and collaborations with international stars such as Beyoncé, Angélique Kidjo, and Awilo Longomba have further cemented her status as a prominent figure in the global music scene. Alade’s recognition by Spotify highlights her role in showcasing the vibrant and diverse nature of African music to audiences around the world.
