Sughshater Ushahemba, a woman from Mbadyur council ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, has been arrested on accusations of poisoning her 11-month-old baby. According to reports, the woman allegedly fed the baby a substance believed to be a chemical in the early hours of Saturday.

Community sources revealed that the woman claimed the baby developed a high temperature and died. The incident came to light when she was caught attempting to bury the child.

Information Officer for Logo LGA, Paul Pevikyaa, shared that the woman initially stated that the baby fell ill around 12:31 am and passed away two hours later. However, she failed to inform neighbors of the situation, which raised suspicions.

Upon further investigation, the woman confessed to killing her baby, citing abandonment by the man who impregnated her as the motive. She explained that her boyfriend abandoned her after she gave birth to a baby girl, and she had been suffering with the child.

The woman allegedly poisoned the baby with a chemical used to spray grasses. The Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is currently in custody.
