Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed as fake a social media report claiming he is supporting the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Ishaku Abbo.
The report had quoted Wike as urging the people of Adamawa State to make informed decisions at the polls while expressing the view that Abbo was best suited to lead the state.
Wike, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the statement did not emanate from him and did not represent his position on the Adamawa governorship contest.
He said he has no relationship with the Labour Party or any of its candidates in Adamawa State and therefore could not have endorsed Abbo.
The minister stressed that he had not endorsed Abbo or any LP governorship candidate in the state, describing the circulating post as mischievous and fabricated.
He urged the people of Adamawa State and the general public to disregard the report in its entirety.
According to his aide, the claim was being circulated on social media to mislead voters and create a false impression of the minister’s political leaning in Adamawa.
Wike maintained that his political position on Adamawa, like elsewhere, would be made public through official channels and not through anonymous social media posts.
He said whenever he decides to make his preferred candidate known, he would do so personally and unambiguously.
The minister’s office cautioned against attributing fake statements to him, warning that such acts were capable of causing confusion ahead of the elections.
The FCT Administration urged members of the public to rely only on verified statements from the minister’s official media handlers for his position on political matters=[‘i\\\\\
