Donald Trump, the president of the United States, declared on Thursday that his administration will not take stock market sentiment into account when determining the specifics of its tariff policy.

Trump said this to reporters during an executive order signing event in the Oval Office.

When asked if the stock market had anything to do with the decision to temporarily halt tariffs on a number of Canadian and Mexican goods, Trump responded that it had “nothing to do with the market.”

“I’m not even looking at the market,” he continued, “because what is occurring here will make the United States very strong in the long run.

“our has a lot to do with businesses and nations that have stolen from our nation, our nation, and our own United States.
