In a resolute stance against the prevailing insecurity in the country, President Bola Tinubu affirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to addressing the security challenges that have plagued Nigeria. The President made this declaration during the induction ceremony of two T129 Attack Combat Helicopters and one King Air Beechcraft 360ER mobility aircraft for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu underscored the significance of the newly acquired helicopters and their induction as a testament to the government’s dedication to national security. The ceremony took place at the 131 Engineering Group Hangar, Nigeria Air Force Base in Makurdi.

Emphasizing the role of the Nigerian Air Force in the nation’s security landscape since its establishment in 1964, President Tinubu commended the Chief of Air Staff, officers, and personnel for their commitment to enhancing national security. He assured continued support from the Tinubu administration in the fight against terrorism, oil theft, and other criminal activities.

Acknowledging progress in ongoing counterterrorism efforts, the President cautioned against premature celebration until all security challenges are effectively addressed. He urged a change in mindset, strategy, and tactics to confront the persisting menace.

Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, provided additional details, stating that the Nigerian Air Force had received seven new aircraft, including two Diamond 62 surveillance aircraft, two T-129 ATAK helicopters, and a King Air 360 ER. He further revealed plans to induct 46 new aircraft of various types over the next 18 months. Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted ongoing training initiatives for the 170 pilots and 533 technicians within the air force, both locally and internationally.

Expressing gratitude, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, thanked President Tinubu for his foresight and unwavering support for the armed forces. The induction of these new aircraft signifies a proactive step towards bolstering the country’s defense capabilities in the face of escalating security threats.
