Electricity supply to parts of Keffi and Akwanga has been disrupted following the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, 2026, saying Towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed during rainy and windy conditions on Wednesday.
According to TCN, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, prompting investigations that revealed the collapse of the three towers.
The company said it immediately isolated the affected line for safety reasons.
As a result, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga Transmission Substations are currently unavailable.
TCN explained that no load can be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice, potentially leaving electricity customers supplied from the two substations without bulk power.
The transmission company said its engineers are already at the affected site to assess the extent of the damage and determine the materials and other requirements needed to commence restoration work.
“TCN regrets the inconvenience this development will cause electricity customers taking supply from substations affected by the tower incident,” the statement said.
The company assured affected customers that efforts were being made to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible and restore bulk power supply. TCN added that it would continue to provide updates to the public as restoration activities progress.
