Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has delivered a strong message to his goalkeeper, Andre Onana, in anticipation of their upcoming match against Sheffield United.
Ten Hag had recruited Onana during the summer to take over as the club’s primary goalkeeper, following the expiration of David de Gea’s contract. The transfer saw Onana move from Inter to Manchester United in a significant £47.2 million deal.
However, Onana’s performances have been far from flawless, and he has faced criticism for his errors in matches against Bayern Munich, Galatasaray, and Brentford.
Ten Hag is unwavering in his belief that Onana needs to step up and exhibit greater consistency in his performances. He remarked, “It’s essential for Andre to acknowledge his history, but we are focused on the present and the future. He needs to shape his future by delivering stronger performances. I’m confident he will rise to the challenge, given his track record in top clubs such as Barcelona during his youth and his impressive runs with Ajax, including reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League. Last season with Inter, he even made it to the final of the Champions League.”
