TCN verifies that electricity has returned to part of Northern Nigeria

    Published on

Following weeks of blackout, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has verified that portions of Northern Nigeria are now receiving bulk electricity again.

Ndidi Mbah, a TCN spokeswoman, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.

TCN reports that at about 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday, the 330 kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line was operational again, restoring power to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe States.

In order to continue restoring power to other northern regions of NBigeria, the firm said that its engineers were working to start repairing the second vandalized 330 kilovolt.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk power supply through its 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 as of 4:56 pm today, following the completion of repairs on the vandalized section of the line. With the repair of this line, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is now operational; likewise, bulk power transmission has been restored to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, & Gombe States.

The TCN technical team is getting ready to start construction on the second 330kV transmission line as restoration activities continue. We have all the materials needed to fix the damaged 330kV transmission line two, and as soon as the location is secured for our workers’ safety, work will start on the damaged parts.

As the repair work moves forward, “teams of linesmen will re-patrol the 330kV line 2 to ensure that no other sections are impacted,” TCN said.

Four states saw the restoration of bulk electricity on Wednesday.

This follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, to address the blackout in the states of Northern Nigeria.

Remember how the Shiroro-Kaduna Transmission Line was destroyed by rebels on October 21, 2024, causing a blackout in most Northern Nigerian states?

Nigerians demanded that Adelabu be fired as a result of the situation.
