On Sunday, Bishop T.D. Jakes gave his daughter and son-in-law control of the Potter’s House congregation.
Months after having a severe heart attack while preaching at the church, Jakes made the announcement.
The church claimed that although this action had been planned for years, it was only made a few months after a near-tragic event.
“You have shown me faithfulness and you have shown God faithfulness.” And I’m really appreciative,” he said to the crowd at The Potter’s House on Sunday morning.
Pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, Jakes’ daughter and son-in-law, will assume leadership in July, he said, holding back tears.
Sarah Jakes Roberts remarked, “As your daughter, I am honored and grateful.”
“I’m so glad you’ll be able to sleep.”
T.D. Jakes, the founder of The Potter’s House in 1996, said that his decision was influenced by his hospitalization following a severe heart attack while performing.
He said, “I can’t afford to risk something happening to me and you being sheep without a shepherd, especially after November.”
