Images of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, entering the court premises carrying a Bible have emerged online.
On Tuesday, Emefiele made his way to the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, at approximately 9:18 am, where he was set to be arraigned. An official of the court accompanied him during his arrival, and he was seen clutching a Bible wrapped in a red paperback.
The charges brought against Emefiele pertain to the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, for which he is facing trial before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, the presiding judge.
It was on June 9 that President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele from his position, subsequently appointing Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the Deputy Governor in charge of Operations Directorate, as the new CBN head.
In connection with the case, the Department of State Services (DSS) disclosed the following day that Emefiele was under investigation and in their custody.
