Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has urged members of the party to end disputes over primaries and focus on winning elections.
Speaking during the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) weekend in Abuja, he said: “If we are still quarrelling about the party’s primary, it is over. We have to win elections.”
Amaechi charged the council to understand the enormity of the task ahead, noting that it demands determination, unity and readiness to surmount obstacles.
According to him, incumbent governments often make the mistake of believing they are invincible and cannot be removed.
The former Rivers State governor recalled his experiences in the opposition during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) era, including alleged restrictions on his movements by security operatives.
He said he was once stopped at Akure Airport and advised by a military officer to leave because his safety could not be guaranteed.
Amaechi said another incident at the same airport saw him prevented from flying until the intervention of political leaders resolved the matter.
He said such experiences did not deter him and should serve as lessons that opposition politics requires courage, persistence and collective action.
The Vice Presidential candidate urged members of the campaign council to remain committed, prepared for unexpected challenges, and focused on delivering victory for the ADC in the forthcoming elections.
