The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, working hand-in-hand with the 10th National Assembly, will decisively tackle insecurity and set Nigeria on the path to economic prosperity.
Speaking at ‘An evening with 004’ — an Independence anniversary event organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Wing in Abuja — Abbas described Tinubu as his foremost role model, citing the President’s ability to sustain political networks and relationships over four decades.
The event, led by APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, also saw the Speaker receive the Legislator of the Year (National Category) award, presented in recognition of his legislative impact and leadership. He was joined by his wife, Hajia Fatima Abbas Tajudeen, and their children.
On security, Abbas said the Federal Government is deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to make crimes unattractive. He pointed to recent improvements in Kaduna, where the UK Ambassador honoured Governor Uba Sani for strides in curbing insecurity.
“Within the next two to four years, we will no longer be talking about insecurity. Government is committed to creating the enabling environment that will mitigate and prevent criminality,” Abbas said.
The Speaker also highlighted the inadequacy of Nigeria’s budget but expressed optimism in Tinubu’s tax reforms, which he said could multiply national revenue fivefold in the coming years.
“Today, revenue is simply inadequate. But once the reforms take effect, Nigeria’s budget will expand significantly. That will be the time we can fully fund education, health, and other sectors at international standards,” he said.
Abbas urged Nigerian youths to embrace honesty and transparency, stressing that integrity attracts trust and long-term success. His wife, Fatima, described him as “an extraordinary man, very kind and honest,” while advising young women to embrace prayer, patience, and mutual support in marriage.
In their citation, APC youths hailed Abbas as “a patriot and statesman” whose leadership continues to inspire hope. In addition to the award, the Speaker was also presented with a sculpted bust by the 109 senatorial youth leaders of the APC.
