The South South Reawakening Group (SSRG) has firmly rejected the emergence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bayelsa State, describing it as a “misguided political project” with no viable future in the Niger Delta.

Speaking on Thursday, the Convener of the group, Elder Joseph Ambakederimo, said the SSRG does not recognize the NDC as a credible political platform, dismissing claims that the party represents the interests of the Ijaw people.
“There is simply no political, ideological, or structural space for the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Bayelsa State or anywhere across the Niger Delta,”
Ambakederimo declared, adding that the party’s positioning was “a fallacy” aimed at advancing personal ambitions.

The SSRG leader, who addressed stakeholders as part of the group’s ongoing sensitization efforts, criticized what he described as attempts to reintroduce minority-based political movements, warning that such efforts could reverse decades of political progress in the region.

“To align with this project is to drag ourselves six decades into the past.
“We have moved beyond the era where small, isolated political platforms can deliver meaningful development.” he said.
Ambakederimo also cautioned residents of Bayelsa West Senatorial District, whom he claimed were the primary targets of the NDC’s outreach to resist what he termed “deceptive political messaging.”

He expressed confidence that the people of the district would not be misled.
“No serious Bayelsa politician of repute will associate with this scheming,” he asserted.
The SSRG further argued that political relevance in Nigeria today depends on alignment with mainstream parties, urging Bayelsans to avoid actions that could isolate them from national decision-making processes.

“This is the era of the mainstream. We must be at the table where decisions are made and resources allocated,” Ambakederimo said.
He explained that continued political marginalization could hinder the region’s development.

He urged people across the state to support the SSRG’s campaign, aimed at promoting political awareness and safeguarding what he described as the collective future of the Niger Delta region.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has yet to respond to the statement.
