Former Senator Shehu Sani has called on Northern politicians with presidential ambitions for 2027 to allow President Bola Tinubu to complete a two-term tenure for the sake of national peace and stability. In an interview on Arise TV, Sani accused prominent northern political figures of planning to use former President Muhammadu Buhari to destabilize Tinubu’s administration.

Sani remarked, “It is a tradition that during Sallah celebrations, prominent people visit the former President, but there are indications that political forces from the North are rallying around Buhari to undermine Tinubu’s government.”

He warned that such actions could create serious problems for Nigeria, pointing out that Tinubu received significant support from the North during his campaign. “Attempting to undermine his presidency can lead to national instability,” he added.

Sani highlighted that no significant Southern political figure tried to oust Buhari during his eight-year tenure, emphasizing the need for a united and peaceful Nigeria. He urged Northern politicians to prioritize national unity over personal ambitions.

“Before considering power, we must think of the whole country. Nigeria remains fragile. If Southern politicians united against the North, it would threaten the nation’s existence,” Sani noted.

He suggested that the North could rightfully seek power after Tinubu’s second term, but cautioned against the current desperation for power. Sani criticized the North’s previous eight years in power under Buhari, stating that it did little for the region.

“Now is the time to support policies and programs that benefit our people,” he concluded, urging Northern politicians to refrain from undermining the current administration
