Shehu Sani, a former member of the 8th Senate, has called on the Federal Government to initiate an independent investigation into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and its recently suspended governor, Godwin Emefiele. In a statement on Twitter, Sani expressed his reaction to President Bola Tinubu’s decision to suspend Emefiele, stating that the former CBN governor had managed the apex bank as a tool for the benefit of a select group, referring to it as an “Automated Teller Machine of the Cabal, a canteen, and cash cow.”Dailynewscraft reports , President Tinubu, through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, directed Emefiele to vacate his position and hand over to Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi immediately. This directive came pending the conclusion of an investigation into the financial sector and the implementation of necessary reforms.Senator Sani commended Tinubu for the suspension of Emefiele and the appointment of Shonubi as the acting governor. He further urged the President to engage external auditors to investigate the CBN and Emefiele in order to ensure transparency and accountability.Sani emphasized the need for an impartial team of auditors from outside the CBN to thoroughly examine the operations of the apex bank during Emefiele’s tenure under President Buhari.”The CBN was operated as an ATM for the benefit of a select group, a canteen, and a source of wealth for the privileged elites of the previous administration,” the statement read.In light of these concerns, Senator Shehu Sani emphasized the importance of a comprehensive investigation to shed light on the inner workings of the CBN during the tenure of Governor Emefiele under President Buhari.
