Seven suspected militia allegedly killed in Benue

At least, seven militia men believed to be gunmen were reportedly macheted to death on Sunday at Tongov Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

An eyewitness and son of the soil, who relayed the incident on Monday in Makurdi to our correspondent, recounted that the seven-man gang has been terrorising the community as inhabitants hardly slept with their two eyes closed over the nefarious activities of the criminals.

Luck, however, ran out on them last Sunday as one of their gang members was spotted when the suspect was sent to buy hemp as the District Head of Tongov was told of the presence of the militia gang member.

He allegedly ordered the youths to bring him dead or alive. An insider recounted how the suspected militia man was brought to the district head, and he allegedly ordered the youths to machete the suspect to death.

It was learnt that the youths allegedly used their cutlasses to cut him to pieces.

Our source disclosed that the suspect was dispossessed of his gun.

Prior to his death, he was forced to disclose the hideout of the remaining six members of the gang.

Consequently, the youths, including a vigilante, raided the hideout and killed the remaining members of the gang.

It was discovered the district head, soon after supervising jungle justice that was visited on the militia gang, also died mysteriously.

Efforts to contact the Local Council Chairman, Hon Benjamin Uzenda, to comment on the development was unsuccessful as several attempts to reach him on phone were not successful.
