Babangida Hussaini Uba, the senator for Jigawa North-West, has bemoaned the exorbitant price of basic goods and urged the federal government and other interested parties to respond.
In a statement released yesterday in Kano, he said this, calling the trend and the resulting load on the populace “quite alarming.”
“I’ve noticed that the price of staple foods is skyrocketing in rural areas of the Northern States and other regions of the nation.
“This tendency and the resulting financial strain on the populace are quite concerning, particularly at the beginning of the harvest season when it is anticipated that food products will be offered at reasonable costs.
“It is very regrettable that the nation’s growing food prices and food insecurity are a result of a number of factors, including insecurity, banditry, and other criminal activity in most of the food-producing areas,” he said.
He demanded that the problem be checked right away since it is becoming out of control and adding to the nation’s suffering.
“This ugly trend is a serious threat to our national food security and stability as a nation, and it must be stopped immediately before things get completely out of control,” he continued.
“I urge all pertinent parties, including the federal, state, and local governments, to act swiftly and strategically to prevent this obvious threat and improve the situation for the sake of the country as a whole.
“To put our country back on track for sustainable economic growth and long-term prosperity, I urge all Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, GCFR,” he said.
